Bruno Hartung

Ernst Bruno Hartung (born September 26, 1846 in Bernstadt ad Eigen , Oberlausitz ; † August 30, 1919 in Leipzig ) was a German Evangelical Lutheran theologian and pastor.

Life

As the son of pastor August Ernst Hartung, Hartung grew up in Wendishain (Central Saxony) and began studying theology at the University of Leipzig in 1864 after graduating from the Princely School in Grimma . After graduating in 1868, he initially worked as a private tutor and from 1869 to 1871 attended the St. Pauli Preacher College, where he also worked as an afternoon preacher . In 1871 he became a deacon in Borna , in 1876 archdeacon at the Peterskirche in Leipzig. Here he rose to the position of first pastor in 1887 and in 1902 also took over the office of superintendent of the Ephorie Leipzig II. In 1916 he retired for reasons of age.

Hartung left a number of publications. It was in 1878 due to a study of Giordano Bruno to Dr. phil. and in 1883 Lic. theol. PhD. In 1888 the University of Leipzig awarded him an honorary theological doctorate .

From 1896 onwards he worked on a voluntary basis as secretary in the central board of the Gustav Adolf Society and headed the society as president from 1909 to 1916.

Hartung had been with Luise Delitzsch, born in 1879. Baur, married, the daughter of Hamburg's chief pastor Gustav Baur and widowed daughter-in-law of the Leipzig theologian Franz Delitzsch .
