Bruno Eduardo Rodríguez Parrilla (born January 22, 1958 in Mexico City , Mexico ) is a Cuban lawyer, journalist and politician. He is the acting Foreign Minister of the Republic of Cuba .

Rodríguez Parrilla is the son of a Spanish civil war refugee . He began his political career as a student leader in the Cuban student association FEU . In the meantime he worked as a professor for international law at the University of Havana and then worked in the management of the communist youth organization UJC : from 1985 as head of the cultural department and from 1986 as secretary for international relations. In 1991 he was appointed editor-in-chief of the UJC Juventud Rebelde newspaper . In 1990 Rodríguez became a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and two years later he was responsible for its cultural department.

As a cultural politician, Rodríguez Parrilla was instrumental in the 1991 controversy surrounding the movie " Alicia in the Place of Miracles " (Alicia en el pueblo de Maravillas) , which led to the film being banned from showing and the resignation of the President of the ICAIC Film Institute . Three days after the premiere of the film in Havana, his article appeared in Juventud Rebelde on June 16, 1991 , whose rejection of the film as counterrevolutionary was confirmed in the following days by other authors in other state publications.

Diplomatic career

As an officer in the Cuban Army , he was involved in the intervention in Angola . From 1993 to 1995 he acted as his country's deputy ambassador to the United Nations , from 1995 to December 2003 as head of the UN mission, then as deputy foreign minister with responsibility for Latin America and the Caribbean as well as information and communication. From October 2004 Rodríguez was first deputy foreign minister under Felipe Pérez Roque . Rodríguez led the humanitarian aid operations in Haiti (2004) and Pakistan (2005-2006).

On March 2, 2009, Cuba's head of state and government, Raúl Castro, carried out a major government reshuffle, appointing Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla as the new foreign minister. On December 11, 2012, he was appointed a member of the Politburo by Raúl Castro at the fifth session of the PCC Central Committee. During the meeting, Raúl Castro also explained the need to train a new generation of leaders.
