Bruno Verdieck (born August 31, 1902 in Kiel ; † July 20, 1969 ) was a German trade unionist ( DGB ) and politician ( SPD ). Between 1948 and 1967 he was DGB chairman in Kiel and from 1950 to 1954 a member of the Schleswig-Holstein state parliament .

Life

Bruno Verdieck was born in Kiel as the son of a shipyard worker. He attended elementary school until 1918 and then began an apprenticeship as a tailor . In 1920 he became a member of the SPD, the Socialist Workers' Youth and the Free Trade Union. From 1929 to 1930 he attended the State College for Economics and Administration in Düsseldorf . In 1932 he became Hamburg local group secretary of the German clothing workers' association.

After 1933, Verdieck continued his political involvement in illegality during the National Socialist dictatorship , which led to his imprisonment by the secret state police in 1936 . Verdieck was sentenced to two and a half years in prison for “preparing to commit high treason” , which he served from 1936 to 1939. Verdieck was then imprisoned in the Fuhlsbüttel concentration camp for another year and a half .

After the end of World War II, Verdieck was one of the founders of the revival of the Kiel labor movement. He became chairman of the DGB local committee in Kiel and was DGB chairman in Kiel from 1948 to 1967.

On November 6, 1950, during the current second electoral period, Verdieck replaced Ludwig Preller in the Schleswig-Holstein state parliament. Verdieck remained a member of the state parliament until the end of the legislative period on August 6, 1954.
