The booking peak is 2,446  meters one of the highest secondary summit of Mount Murphy -Massivs in the West Antarctic Marie Byrd Land . It rises in the west-central summit region of the massif.

The United States Geological Survey mapped it on the basis of its own measurements and aerial photographs of the United States Navy from 1959 to 1966. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named it in 1976 after the German-American geologist and paleontologist Walter Hermann Bucher (1889-1965 ).
