Buda is a city in Hays County in the US state of Texas in the United States .
geography
The city is located in central southeast Texas, about 20 km southwest of Austin , and 100 km northeast of San Antonio on Interstate 35 , which runs in north-south direction, and has a total area of 6.2 km², of which 0.3 km² is water is.
history
Buda was officially founded on April 1, 1881, when Cornelia Trimble made land on the International-Great Northern Railroad , near the railroad depot, available for the development of the city. The first settler in the area was Phillip J. Allen in 1846 .
The first post office was opened in 1887. In the following years hotels, banks, farms and ranches were added in the area. The city developed into the commercial center of the area. During the Great Depression , the population fell to 300. In 1948 Buda received city rights and only in the 1980s , due to its proximity to Austin, did the city begin to grow again noticeably.
Demographic data
According to the 2000 census, 2404 people lived here in 866 households and 685 families. The population density was 385.1 inhabitants per km ². The racial the population was composed of 81.95% White, 1.58% African American, 0.54% Native American, 0.87% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, and 12.02% other ethnic groups. About 3.04% were mixed race and 26.83% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 866 households, 44.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them. 65.5% of them were married couples living together. 10.9% were single mothers and 20.8% were non-families. 17.1% of all households were single households and 7.5% had people living there who were 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.78 and the average family size was 3.13.
29.7% of the population were under 18 years old, 6.4% 18 to 24, 36.7% 25 to 44, 19.7% 45 to 64, and 7.4% who were 65 years of age or older . The median age was 32 years. For every 100 females of all age groups, there were 92.3 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 90.3 men.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 54,135 , and the median income for a family is $ 57,321. Males had a median income of $ 37,398 versus $ 30,064 for females. The per capita income was $ 22,167. 3.7% of the population and 3.3% of families are below the poverty line. Of these, 5.0% were children and adolescents under 18 years of age and 14.7% were 65 or older.
