Budislav Vukas

Budislav Vukas (born  January 1, 1938 in Rijeka ) is a Croatian lawyer and professor. He was a member of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea from 1996 to 2005 and was its vice-president from 2002 to 2005.

Life

After studying at the University of Zagreb and the Hague Academy of International Law , Vukas obtained his doctorate in international law in 1974 . From 1977 he taught as a professor at the University of Zagreb and held numerous visiting professorships. He was also a consultant for the United Nations Environment Program on several occasions and took part in the Third UN Conference on the Law of the Sea . As a founding member, he was instrumental in building up the Association internationale du Droit de la mer . In the Application of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide case before the International Court of Justice , he acted as an ad hoc judge nominated by Croatia . In the Application of the Interim Accord of September 13, 1995 , Macedonia also selected him as an ad hoc judge.
