It offers 30 beds (and five in the small, unheated dépendance) and is open in the summer season from mid-June to the end of October.

history

Wilfried Graf from Binningen and his family started in 1973 from his holiday home in Selma to make old paths, shown on the map, accessible again. Individual paths were restored as part of international student exchanges. This gave rise to the idea of creating a continuous path from San Bernardino to Santa Maria in Calanca , the Sentiero Alpino Calanca . The association Associazione Sentieri Alpini Calanca (ASAC) was founded in 1978 to provide financial support . The association built the first Buffalora hut (1981) and the bivouac huts Ganan (1983) and Pian Grand (1985) along the Sentiero Alpino .

After an avalanche destroyed the first Buffalora hut in 1985, the second Buffalora hut was built on a safe ridge near the old hut in 1987. The renovated and expanded hut was inaugurated in 2015. It now has 30 seats in seven rooms.

The ASAC continues to take care of the maintenance of the huts and many hiking trails in the wild Calanca valley in order to keep them in the valley threatened by decay . The renovated and expanded hut was inaugurated in 2015. It now has 30 seats in seven rooms.

Approaches

The Buffalora Hut can be reached in different ways. The main accesses are from the Calanca valley of Rossa ( 1088  m ) in 3 hours; from Misox from Soazza ( 620  m ) in approx. 5 hours or from the Alp de Bec ( 1515  m ), which can be reached by car / taxi service, in approx. 2½ hours.
