Bujorel "Mochi" Mocanu (born May 11, 1962 in Slănic , Prahova County ; † January 28, 2011 in Ploieşti , Prahova County) was a Romanian football player and coach . He denied 223 games in the highest Romanian football league, the Divizia A .

Career

Mocanu began his career in 1976 in the youth of Metalul Plopeni , where he was trained by Victor Ionescu. At the age of 16, the coach Virgil Dridea brought him to the first team, which ended up among the four best-placed teams in Divizia B from 1978 to 1980 and just barely missed promotion to Divizia A. Mocanu completed his military service in Buzau and played during this time with Gloria Buzau and Chimia Buzau . Then he returned to his now in the Divizia C back relegated home club and helped it in 1983 In the summer of 1983 joined the chances of promotion to the Divizia B. Mocanu top-league side Petrolul Ploiesti , which temporarily changed its name 1991/92 FC Ploiesti and he to 1994 stayed true. On September 3, 1983 Mocanu was used in the home win against Rapid Bucharest by coach Viorel Mateianu for the first time in Divizia A. The midfielder scored 18 goals in 223 top division games, three of which were corner kicks. There were also two appearances in the 1990/91 UEFA Cup against RSC Anderlecht . In Petrolul's all-time top scorer list, he is third behind Mircea Dridea and Nicolae Toporan .

In 1994 Mocanu moved to Steaua Mizil in Divizia B for two years and played his last of a total of 83 games in autumn 1996 as a player-coach. In 1996 he returned as a player-coach to his hometown club Metalul Plopeni, with whom he was relegated to Divizia C in 1998 and where he stayed until 2000. In total, he had completed 47 games for Metalul. Mocanu ended his active career after the 2000/01 season, which he had spent at Prahova Argus Ploieşti .

At the same time, he worked from 2000 in the children's and youth area of Petrolul Ploieşti . From 2003 until his death in January 2011, Mocanu worked as a youth coach for the third division team Conpet Ploieşti . He was also involved in the lower class club Gloria Vâlcăneşti , with whom he was promoted to League A of the Prahova district in 2006.

He died of long-term cirrhosis of the liver after being admitted to the Ploiesti District Hospital four days before his death for acute pancreatitis . Mocanu was buried on January 30, 2011 at the Mihai Bravu Cemetery in Ploieşti.
