The League of Communists of Slovenia ( Serbo-Croatian Savez komunista Slovenije / Савез комуниста Словеније; Slovenian Zveza komunistov Slovenije , ZKS ) was a communist party in Slovenia and part of the League of Communists of Yugoslavia , the ruling party in the former Yugoslavia .
history
The party was founded in 1937 as the Communist Party of Slovenia and was the first autonomous regional party of Yugoslavia. On January 23, 1990, the Slovenian delegation, led by Milan Kučan, left the party congress of the Union of Communists of Yugoslavia . This led to the collapse of the ruling party.
On February 4th, the Association of Communists of Slovenia renamed itself the United Lists of Social Democrats and began to negotiate with the Democratic Opposition of Slovenia on a multi-party system . In April the reformed communists lost the election to DEMOS . In April 1992 both parties were dissolved.
