The Bundesgymnasium und Bundesrealgymnasium Schwechat is a grammar school in Schwechat .
history
The grammar school moved into the old main school building in Schwechat in 1969 as the branch of the grammar school Bruck an der Leitha . In the first school year 1969/70 this taught 77 pupils in three classes. In 1976 it became an independent school.
Since there was a lack of space in the school, the federal government decided to expand and renovate it. After the architectural competition announced in 2007, which was won by the Schwinde architects, there were lengthy financial negotiations between the federal real estate company and the federal government, so that construction only began in 2011 and was implemented in 2012.
Since 1994, the school has been the subject of a school development project of action research in cooperation with the Faculty for Interdisciplinary Research and Further Education (IFF) of the Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt under the direction of Konrad Krainer .
Educational offer
In the lower grades, the main focus is on a music-creative class in the first and second grades. This offer is aimed at students who are musically interested (instrument, singing), are creative or want to dance. A band and a choir are available to the students for this purpose .
For the third and fourth grades, the pupils can choose from other areas of focus: Gymnasium as a foreign language between French or Latin and Realgymnasium with a focus on natural sciences .
Abuse case
On November 23, 2017, allegations arose that a teacher of geography and technical works, who had been teaching at the grammar school since 2010, had sexually abused 11- and 12-year-old students. The pedagogue was arrested on November 27, 2017 by officials of the State Criminal Police Office and in 2018 found guilty of all charges by the competent jury in Korneuburg - he was sentenced by the court to four years in prison, among other things. The judgment is not final, but according to the teacher's lawyer it will only be contested with regard to the placement (as of 2018).
