Life

Konrad Krainer studied mathematics and geography & economics at the University of Klagenfurt . Parallel to his work as a teacher, he was active in research and further education (collaboration in the development of the university courses "Pedagogy and Subject Didactics for Teachers - PFL"). He wrote his dissertation and habilitation in mathematics didactics , and completed training as an academic organizational consultant in the field of education. Konrad Krainer was visiting professor at the University of Georgia , the University of Duisburg and the Charles University in Prague as well as a visiting scholar at the University of Iowa and Monash University in Melbourne. Since 2001 he has been a university professor for further education with special focus on school development at the Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt. There he set up the Institute for Teaching and School Development, was a member of the Senate and founding director of the School of Education, and has been Dean of the Faculty for Interdisciplinary Research and Training (IFF) since 2016. Konrad Krainer was a founding member of the board of directors of the European Society for Mathematics Education (ERME) for many years, initiated the young research group YERME and helped set up the summer school. He held numerous invitation and main lectures at home and abroad, including at the International Congress on Mathematical Education (ICME 10) in Copenhagen (2004) and at the 11th Congress of European Research in Mathematics Education (CERME 11) in Utrecht (2019). He was Chair of a Plenary Panel at ICME 12 in Seoul (2012) and Chair of the International Program Committee of the ninth ERME Conference (CERME9) in Prague (2015) and Chair of a Topic Study Group at ICME 14 in Shanghai (2020). Konrad Krainer has been married to his wife Barbara since 1983, they live in Krumpendorf on Lake Wörthersee . The two sons Georg Gabriel and Peter Johannes work in Cambridge and Freising .

Focus

Konrad Krainer's focus is on mathematics didactics and teacher training with a special focus on teaching, school and educational system development.

His projects include IMST - Innovations Make Schools Top , which aims to establish a culture of innovation in Austrian MINDT teaching (mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, German, technology) and offers support services for teachers and networks. The innovations are disseminated internationally with the help of the EU-FP7 project Fibonacci .
