The Bundesoberstufenrealgymnasium Deutsch-Wagram (short BORG Deutsch-Wagram ) is a general education secondary school in Deutsch-Wagram and is located in the school center Deutsch-Wagram .

history

In 2007, the municipality founded the upper level realgymnasium as a private gymnasium with public rights . Before that, senior high school drivers visited Groß-Enzersdorf , Gänserndorf or Floridsdorf . The aim of the community was to establish a general secondary school (AHS) on site at its own risk and then to hand it over to the state. As such, at the time it was only one of two AHS in Austria that were a private school with a municipality as the maintainer.

At first, the number of students remained below expectations. Only a newly appointed director, at that time the youngest in Lower Austria, was able to raise the image of the school with a new educational concept and increase the number of pupils, from 120 pupils in 2010 to 200 in 2012. The space available in the main school building was soon no longer sufficient so that the construction of a new school building started (municipal council resolution of May 8, 2008). A provisional solution was set up for the 2008/09 school year.

In 2011 the school was taken over by the state and at the same time moved into the new building.

The BORG Deutsch-Wagram is managed in two branches, namely instrumental and pictorial , so it has a musical focus . In addition to English , Spanish is mandatory as a foreign language . Another focus is communication and presentation as compulsory subjects .

The school building consists of two separate structures, an elongated school block in the normal to the avenue of the school center and a dual sports hall . It is an example of a contemporary school architecture. The architectural firm franz zt gmbh Robert Diem and Erwin Stättner in Vienna won the architecture competition.

The school section (component I) has three to four storeys with the basement, but from the western side of the street it is only two storeys long. It takes up the profile gradient towards the pond in the longitudinal axis. It has a continuous ribbon of windows on the ground floor, which creates a floating impression. 175 large windows in the uniform format of 1.80 × 1.80 m are distributed over the white to slightly bluish graduated aluminum facade, and appearing rhythmically unsorted on the outside, they are adapted to the necessary use and needs of the interior. There is a spacious forecourt facing the avenue, from which the distinctive entrance leads to the central cloakroom and auditorium. The interior of the school library extends over three floors. A spacious terrace for breaks could be created on the roof.

The sports hall (component I) is set at pond level in order to create the transition to the existing building on the opposite side, and appears squat on the higher floor level. With the aluminum outer skin, it visually forms a unit with the school section, but is set apart from this to provide free access to the Maintaining the pond, which was one of the central concerns of the planning. In the basement there is a weather-protected connection to the school building, while external users or spectators have direct access from the parking lots via an external staircase.

The new building is built in passive house quality (Deutsch-Wagram has been a climate alliance community since 1997 ), with a geothermal heat pump system and solar power generation. The construction costs including field work amounted to around 16 million euros. The building was also awarded by the Austrian Institute for School and Sports Facility Construction.
