The Bundesoberstufenrealgymnasium Mistelbach (short: BORG Mistelbach ) is a general education secondary school in Mistelbach .
prehistory
As early as the 19th century, the Barnabites who ran the Mistelbach Barnabite College tried unsuccessfully for a higher school. The municipality was also unsuccessful for the time being. Schoolchildren mainly attended secondary schools in the Gänserndorf and Vienna districts.
General
The music-pedagogical secondary school was founded in 1963 as a branch of the BG Gänserndorf after the School Organization Act of 1962 first permitted this type of school. The first grade (5th grade ) was intended as a transition class from the Hauptschule and the 2nd to 5th grade were run as upper grades. In the first school year 1963/64, 46 pupils were taught. The school classes of the rapidly growing school were gradually accommodated in different buildings in Mistelbach and Lanzendorf. In 1968 this music-pedagogical high school became independent, in 1975 it was renamed "Oberstufen-Realgymnasium" and in 1978 moved into the current building, which was then rebuilt and extended in several steps and expanded in 2004 with a commercial academy to become a federal school center. Although it is the district capital, Mistelbach is the last established school location in Lower Austria that does not offer any lower secondary school. In Laa an der Thaya and Wolkersdorf in the Weinviertel , both in the Mistelbach district, there are grammar schools with lower levels. This means that the BORG and the other higher schools in Mistelbach have a very high proportion of students from the secondary school.
The BORG Mistelbach has been run in four branches since 2006, namely instrumental , artistic , scientific and as a branch with IT .
Branches
Instrumental
The instrumental branch is the oldest branch of the school and aims to train primary school teachers .
Pictorial
With the artistic branch, the school attracted many artists who taught here and at the same time a young generation interested in art grew up who together made significant contributions to Mistelbach's rise to the cultural center and which is underlined, for example, by the Mistelbach Museum Center or the Paasdorf cultural landscape .
Scientific
The science branch was founded in 1977. It is largely based on the curriculum of the Realgymnasium. As a result, the school was excellently equipped for the subjects of biology, chemistry and physics.
Computer science
This branch emerged in 2006 from the optional and later elective computer science . In addition to the classic computer science education, another focus is on graphics, audio and video, whereby, in contrast to the usual school operations, emphasis is placed on the use of open source software.
