Edmund Freibauer (born February 20, 1937 in Ringelsdorf , Lower Austria ) is an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ) and AHS director. He was mayor of Mistelbach an der Zaya , member of the Lower Austria state parliament , regional councilor in the Lower Austrian state government and, most recently, from 1998 to 2008 the state parliament president .

Life

Edmund Freibauer comes from a family of farm workers and has four siblings. He graduated after attending the elementary school in Ringelsdorf 1955 at the Gymnasium in Gänserndorf and graduated in 1960 a degree in mathematics and physics at the University of Vienna from. Political career

Freibauer began his political career in 1966 as a municipal councilor in Mistelbach and became a city councilor in 1970. As early as 1972 he became the city's deputy mayor, and between 1975 and 1989 he held the office of mayor of Mistelbach. In addition, he was sworn in on December 4, 1979 as a member of the Lower Austrian state parliament, to which he initially belonged until October 22, 1992, where he also held the position of ÖVP club chairman from 1988 to 1992. In addition, Freibauer was regional chairman of the Lower Austrian Association of Local Representatives of the ÖVP from 1988 to 1992. In 1996 he was also elected regional chairman of the Lower Austrian Seniors' Association. On April 16, 1998, he returned to the state parliament and was elected president of the state parliament on that day. He held the office until April 10, 2008, after which he resigned as President and Member of the State Parliament. His successor was Hans Penz .

From 1996 to 2012 he was chairman of the Lower Austrian Seniors' Association . His successor is Herbert Nowohradsky .
