The Gran Premio di Siracusa 1955 took place on October 23 at the Circuito di Siracusa in Sicily . The race was not part of any racing series.

The race

The 1955 motorsport season was marked by serious accidents and the resulting many race cancellations. The accident at the Le Mans 24-hour race in 1955 had a lasting impact on the year. As a result, the Grand Prix of Germany , France , Spain and Switzerland were canceled. As a result, a law was passed in Switzerland that bans circuit racing and is still in force today. This shortened the Formula 1 world championship season to seven races.

The Grand Prix of Syracuse, which was not part of the World Championship and was announced in 1955 for racing cars of racing formulas 1 and 2 , was not canceled . Three works teams were at the start in Sicily. Maserati registered five Maserati 250F for Luigi Piotti , Luigi Musso , Luigi Villoresi and the two Americans Harry Schell and Carroll Shelby . For Connaught went Tony Brooks and Les Leston in Type B into the race and Gordini were Robert Manzon and Jacques Pollet at the start.

The race ended in surprise, as Tony Brooks was able to prevail in the Connaught against the more highly rated Maserati. It was the first Grand Prix victory for a Briton in a British car in 31 years and the success of Henry Segrave on a Sunbeam at the 1924 San Sebastian Grand Prix .
