Election of the Federal President in Austria in 1957
The election of the Federal President in Austria in 1957 was the second popular election for the Austrian head of state . This consisted of only one ballot, which was held on May 5, 1957 and which Adolf Schärf was able to decide for himself.
Starting position
The previous Federal President Theodor Körner died on January 4, 1957. Since that day, Federal Chancellor Julius Raab has exercised the functions of Federal President in accordance with the constitution. Unlike the previous election, there were only two candidates in this election.

Of 4,630,997 eligible voters, 4,499,565 cast their votes (with general compulsory voting), which results in a voter turnout of 97.2%. 81,706 votes were considered invalid, which corresponds to 1.8% of the votes cast.
