Election of the Federal President in Austria in 1980
The federal president election in Austria in 1980 , the seventh popular election of an Austrian head of state , took place on May 18, 1980. The previous incumbent, Rudolf Kirchschläger , was confirmed in his office and was thus the third federal president to begin a second term.
Starting position
The previous Federal President, Rudolf Kirchschläger , ran for a new election, as the constitution allowed. His competitors were Willfried Gredler from the FPÖ and Norbert Burger from the NDP .
