The Federal Association of the German Air Transport Industry e. V. (BDL) is an interest group of the German aviation industry based in Berlin.

tasks

The association articulates the similarities of the entire German aviation industry and their positions to the outside world, such as the recommendation of a competition-neutral implementation of the EU emissions trading in aviation. Future tasks should be tackled together. The association pleads u. a. for a Europe-wide and competition-neutral regulation of night air traffic, such as the relaxation of the night flight ban ; the BDL alternatively uses the term flights during off- peak times . According to the BDL, night air traffic is by no means needed everywhere in Germany.

Members of the association

Members include the airlines Condor Flugdienst , Deutsche Lufthansa AG , TUIfly GmbH and DHL / European Air Transport Leipzig , Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH and Fraport , DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH , the associations ADV and BDF and Gebr. Heinemann SE & Co . KG .

Organization and management

The BDL is organized as a registered association ; it was founded on December 9, 2010. The honorary founding president was Dieter Kaden, who took up his post in December 2010 in addition to his role as CEO of DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH. He was replaced on June 1, 2011 by Klaus-Peter Siegloch , who was elected full-time President of the BDL in March 2011.

On June 1, 2016, Stefan Schulte , CEO of Fraport AG , succeeded Siegloch as honorary president. On June 1, 2018, Prof. Klaus-Dieter Scheurle , Chairman of the Management Board of DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung, took over the chairmanship of the association for two years .

Matthias von Randow , the former State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Development (BMVBS) , has been the managing director of the BDL since July 1, 2011 .

4 liter campaign

The association coordinates an advertising campaign for the German aviation industry. According to the BDL, the aircraft of the members of the BDL consumed an average of less than four liters of fuel per 100 kilometers per passenger for all domestic and international flights in 2011. The campaign was criticized as greenwashing, however, and the Federal Environment Agency stated that emissions at high levels have a particularly high impact on the climate and are therefore at least as harmful to the climate as those of an eight-liter car. In fact, the environmental impact of air travel per passenger is significantly higher than the environmental impact of all other modes of transport.
