National park
The Burabai National Park in northern Kazakhstan, in the Kokshetau massif in the Akmola area , is also known as the “Pearl of Kazakhstan” or “Kazakh Switzerland”. It extends in a picturesque mountain landscape, which is rich in rock formations, clear lakes and spruce forests . There are 14 large and numerous small lakes in the park, including Shchuchye, Borovoye and Kotyrkol. Burabai's calling card is the so-called Blue Bay . The highest mountain in the park is called Kökschetau (Kazakh for "Blue Mountain", Russian Sinjucha , 947 m ). South of the Kökschetau are the mountains Burabai ( 690 m ) and Scheke-Batyr ("the lonely warrior", 826 m ).
The fauna of Burabai counts over 305 vertebrate species, the flora over about 800 steppe, meadow, moor and salt soil plant species.
Surname
The name of the place and the park is connected to a legend, according to which it comes from the word Bura , Kazakh for "camel", which warned of a coming danger and thus saved the Kazakh people. The shape of one of the rocks is reminiscent of the camel from the old legend.
