Burak Çebi

Burak Çebi (born May 7, 1985 in İzmir ) is a Turkish pianist .

Career

Burak Çebi grew up in a family of musicians who have been associated with Western classical music for generations. He first got access to the piano at the age of five from his father, who is also a pianist. At the age of six he received piano lessons. Shortly afterwards he was accepted into the State Conservatory at the Dokuz Eylül University in Izmir . At the age of 18 he graduated from the Conservatory in Izmir and moved to Germany. He began studying at the Nuremberg University of Music and graduated in 2011 with a master class in piano.

Burak Çebi won 1st prize at the 2013 Orchestra Sion International Piano Competition in İstanbul. as well as the 2nd prize at the Ciudad di Orihuela International Piano Competition 2016 in Spain and also the 2nd prize at the Musica Enharmonia Piano Competition 2016 in Rimini, Italy.

In recent years he has given concerts in Berlin (Musical Instrument Museum, French Cathedral, House of Radio ), Munich ( Steinway House ), Bayreuth (Steingraeber House), İstanbul (Notre Dame de Sion, Cemal Resit Rey Konser Salonu), Ankara (Bilkent Konser Salonu) İzmir (AASSM, Hikmet Simsek Hall), Bourges (France), Fürth (city theater), Heilbronn, Bamberg, Ingolstadt, Neustadt, Trier and many other cities. He participated in master classes and concerts, as well as in events of the “Freiburg Piano Academy 2011”, “Geza-Anda-Klaviertage 2011” in Berlin, “Heidelberg Spring 2010”, International Chamber Music Masterclasses in Schaffhausen, Piano Festival “Chance 2009” at Tegernsee. As part of the “Hochschulklänge” project, supported by the Nuremberg University of Music and the Neumarkt Study Center, he gave a piano recital on the occasion of Robert Schumann's 200th birthday in the Neumarkt Reitstadel.

His solo debut took place in 2002 in Izmir, as well as his debut with orchestra in 2007 with the State Orchestra in Izmir under the direction of Ibrahim Yazici with Beethoven's 4th Piano Concerto. His debut in Berlin with the Berliner Camerata took place in 2012 with the Piano Concerto No. 9 'Jeunehomme' by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

He studied in Nuremberg in the piano class of Ingeborg Schmidt-Noll and among other things gained experience in numerous master classes by renowned artists such as Jean-Francois Antonioli , Bernd Glemser , Jura Margulis , Wolfgang Manz , Werner Bärtschi . His encounter and the resulting collaboration with his mentor, the renowned pianist Hüseyin Sermet , has played a major role in his career for over 3 years.

Burak Çebi has received scholarships from the DAAD and the Sparda-Bank Nürnberg and is a scholarship holder of the Wagner Association. He also won several prizes at the “Piano Podium 2008” International Competition and in 2009 he reached the semi-finals at the “Concours Vibrarte Paris”. He is also the winner of the Nuremberg Chamber Music Competition of the Mozart Association 2011.

He is also active in song and chamber music and has played several times for the International Foundation for the Promotion of Culture and Civilization. He appeared as part of the Berlin chamber music concert series Prelude Concerts. With the soprano Anne-Katrin Steffens he performs regularly as a lied duo in various cities.

Burak Çebi has lived in Berlin since the end of 2011 and works as a lecturer at the Berlin University of the Arts .
