Burchard Heinrich von Wichmann

Burchard Heinrich von Wichmann (born August 24, 1786 in Riga , † July 19, 1822 in Saint Petersburg ) was a Livonian writer .

Life

Burchard Heinrich von Wichmann studied medicine from 1804 to 1806 at the University of Jena and 1806 at the University of Heidelberg. He then studied diplomacy at the University of Heidelberg and from 1808 at the University of Göttingen. In 1809 he continued his diplomacy studies at the University of Dorpat , where he was also enrolled in the philosophy faculty. In Jena he became a member of the Esto-Livonia and in 1806 in Heidelberg of the Corps Livonia. After completing his studies, von Wichmann entered the service of the Russian tsar and initially became a teacher of history and statistics with the page corps in Saint Petersburg. In the same year he was appointed tutor to Duke Alexander von Württemberg . In 1814 and 1815 he acted as secretary and librarian to Nikolai Petrovich Rumyantsev . From 1817 to 1818 von Wichmann held the offices of Courland government debt director and director of the illustrious grammar school in Mitau . After accompanying the sons of Duke Alexander to Germany, he lived in Riga for some time and then returned to Saint Petersburg, where he had been employed in the Department of Spiritual Affairs since 1820 and was given the rank of councilor . Von Wichmann worked as a book collector. As a writer he wrote not only statistical treatises but also works on the history of Russia.
