history
The castle was probably built in the 12th century by the Lobdeburgers . In 1288 a knight of Dölau was named for the first time in the suite of the bailiffs of Weida. At that time the castle was owned by the Reuss von Plauen zu Greiz .
It is worth mentioning the kemenaten-like building that was modernized for the time . The moats at that time have been filled. In the 16./17. In the 17th century the building was a granary. 1694–1743 the castle served under Heinrich XVI. to Greiz and his sons as the residence of their own small rule, the Reussian line "Greiz-Dölau". In 1743 Dölau was united with Obergreiz and the castle was abandoned. At the time of the GDR the property belonged to VEG Dölau. Use had priority over conservation. In 2010 the property was bought by a private person. After 2010, a deep ditch rampart was artificially partially restored. Preservation and reconstruction are under the supervision of the monument protection authority .
