The ruin of Fürstenwalde Castle ( Hrad Fürstenwalde in Czech ) is located west of Vrbno in the Okres Bruntál in the Czech Republic. It is located on the Zámecká hora (854 m, castle hill ) above the confluence of the Střední Opava and Bílá Opava to the Opava .
history
Fürstenwalde Castle was first mentioned in 1348 when it was owned by the Troppauer Duke Nikolaus II . It took priority as a border castle towards Silesia and was listed first in 1377 when the goods of the Duchy of Opava were compiled, which was divided that year. Together with the reign of Freudenthal , it belonged to the Duchy of Jägerndorf from 1377 , which Duke Johann I received. At the beginning of the 15th century, the castle was expanded to include a palace . Presumably in the Bohemian-Hungarian wars for the Bohemian throne, it was destroyed in 1474 during the procession of the opposing king Matthias Corvinus to Silesia.
