Heidenpuetz Castle

In the castle Heidenpütz is the Burgstall a Wallenburg on a ridge at Nassau in Rhineland-Palatinate . It is in line of sight to Nassau Castle directly above the Langauer Mühle in the Nassau district of Schänen . The complex is not dated, but the construction suggests that it was built in the early Middle Ages .

location

The spur castle is located in the spur location at 242  m above sea level. NN on the Mühlbachtal facing east side of the ridge of the Heidenpütz . The north, east and south sides drop very steeply into the valley, only to the west there is a flat transition to the ridge. This side, threatened by attack, has the main defenses.

description

Heidenpütz Castle is divided into several sections, each separated by ramparts and section ditches . A total of three walls secure access to the main castle . The first, most westerly wall, is around 100 meters long, with a wall height above the bottom of the trench of up to 3 meters. The trench itself is around 2 meters wide and 1 meter deep.

The second section wall with a ditch follows about 50 meters away . Due to the shape of the terrain, this is slightly longer than the first wall, but has the same dimensions in terms of height and the ditch. A gate can be assumed at the southern end.

The third wall following about 80 meters away is the highest, but the shortest due to the shape of the terrain. It is about 50 meters long and up to 5 meters high from the bottom of the trench. The trench itself is around 3 meters wide and 2 meters deep. At the north end of the wall was probably the gate.

From the third wall section, a rock ridge extended to the path leads to the main castle. Another ditch can be seen, but it was built over at the entrance to the main castle. This ditch probably represents the neck ditch . The masonry is still clearly visible today. A few meters east of a refuge, which is now installed on the highest point of the rock ridge, there are depressions in the rock that indicate the foundation of a structure, perhaps a tower.

There are many individual bricks distributed over the entire complex and the surrounding slopes, which indicate the presence of masonry parts of the complex.
