Location of Schüsten in Rhineland-Palatinate |
Schufen is a district of Nassau an der Lahn in the Rhein-Lahn district in Rhineland-Palatinate .
history
The place was first mentioned as a shura in 1163. Simultaneously with Nassau and Dausenau , the place received city rights in 1348 by King Charles IV . Since the 19th century, Schänen was part of the Bergnassau-Schänen municipality in the Unterlahn district . In the course of the Rhineland-Palatinate regional reform that began in the mid-1960s, Bergnassau-Schänen was incorporated into the municipality in 1969 and has been a district of Nassau ever since. This district is located on the side of Nassau facing the Taunus , i.e. the south side. The Lahn forms the border to Nassau.
The medieval city wall has been partially preserved. The remains of a moated castle have also been preserved. This was converted into a castle around 1600. From 1855 it housed the Scheuen Foundation , for which the castle was heavily rebuilt.
South of the Long Auermühle found on the ridge of the Heidenpütz a hitherto undated Wallburg .
Facilities
Scheuer has its own kindergarten, the volunteer fire brigade , the sports club and the men's choir. Schufen is also known for the iron and sulfur-containing “Sauerborn” well.
