The Jungnau Castle , also called Jungnau Castle , is the ruin of a hilltop castle on a rocky hill at about 620 m above sea level in the center next to the Church of St. Anna in Jungnau , a district of Sigmaringen in the Sigmaringen district in Baden-Württemberg .
history
The Ortsburg, built by Burkkhard von Jungingen in the immediate vicinity of Schiltau Castle , was first mentioned in 1333 in the possession of his sons Burkhart and Johannes and in 1418 it was owned by the Counts of Werdenberg . From 1534 to 1806 the castle was owned by the Fürstenbergers and became the seat of the chief bailiff . The Palas the castle became the castle rebuilt. In 1842 the upper part of the tower was demolished, in 1844 the castle except for the keep . A school and town hall was built on the site.

Of the former castle and palace complex, only the keep, whose half-timbered superstructure with a gable roof was demolished in 1844, is 18 meters high on a floor area of 8.55 × 8.85 meters, equipped with a pointed arched entrance twelve meters high and a wall thickness of three meters. On the north side of the keep was the medieval hall and later palace building. At the place of the rectory was the fruit box , of which the foundation walls with individual humpback blocks have been preserved. The keep is now also known as the "Kaiser Wilhelm Tower".
