Kleinenberg Castle (North Rhine-Westphalia)
Kleinenberg Castle

The castle Kleinenberg is an abandoned medieval town castle , which served as a lordly administrative house, in Kleinenberg , city of Lichtenau in the Paderborn district in North Rhine-Westphalia , Federal Republic of Germany .

location

The Burgstall is located in Kleinenberg, northwest of the church square.

history

Kleinenberg is mentioned for the first time in 1221 and designated as a town in 1249.

There was usually a castle in Paderborn towns. In Kleinenberg it is only indirectly attested in written sources . In 1658 the location of the castle stables was named Episcopal Burgplatz, a painting from 1665 shows a corresponding building and in 1780 the square is called 'Freiheit'.

Since the Lords of Osdagessen / Marschall were involved in the founding of Kleinenberg , it is assumed that they owned shares in the castle. With a Burglehen are lords of Calenberg testified on site.

Todays use

Today there are residential buildings on the castle grounds .

description

Before 1926, remains of masonry, stairs, stone flooring and a well were excavated at the site mentioned. On the painting of the city view of Kleinenberg from the vedute cycle of Carl Ferdinand Fabritius from 1665, a building similar to Lichtenau Castle can be seen.
