Layen Castle is the ruin of a hilltop castle on the Schlossbühl near the pilgrimage chapel in the Rümmelsheim community in the Bad Kreuznach district in Rhineland-Palatinate .

In 1169 the castle is mentioned for the first time together with “Rimilisheim” as “castro Leiga” (= Fixed House Layen) and belonged to the properties in Waldlaubersheim , Genheim , Roth , Schweppenhausen and Eckenroth of the Lords of Bolanden .

Layen Castle (on a Laye = on the stone), which was also partially owned by the Knights of the Stone, served to protect the Trollbachtal through which the road led to the heights. In 1680 the castle, of which the keep still stands today, was restored.
