Reichwalde Castle

The castle Reichwalde is an Outbound Wasserburg within the boundaries of the village Reichwalde , a modern district in the town of Bersteland in Dahme-Spreewald in Brandenburg . The castle was the seat of the Reichwalde aristocracy .

history

The castle was on a hill, about 300 meters north of today's village center of Reichwald between the Berste and the road to Freiwalde . It was first mentioned in a document in 1301 as castrum Richenwalde , but is probably much older. It was built during the 12th or 13th century on a Slavic rampart surrounded by swamps . The castle also had a courtyard.

In 1345 the Reichwalde castle was owned by a Johann von Strel . In 1363, the Brandenburg Margrave Ludwig the Roman Botho von Torgau, Reinhard von Strehle and Dietrich von Torgau enfeoffed Beeskow and Storkow as well as the yards of Reichwalde Castle and Märkisch Buchholz . In 1377 the Lords of Bieberstein first came into co-ownership of Reichwalde Castle, but Reichwalde Castle was sold in 1381 by Emperor Karl IV to an Anselm von Ronow.

In 1384 King Wenzel officially enfeoffed Hans and Ulrich von Bieberstein with the rule of Reichwalde. On April 26, 1414, Johann von Bieberstein sold the Reichwalde estate to the city of Luckau . The city council was given permission to burn down the castle, which was no longer needed, so that it could not be used as a shelter by highwaymen . There are no more remains of the castle. During archaeological excavations, coarse, blue-gray fragments of vessels that were still in use in Reichwalde Castle were found.
