Weiler Castle

The Burgweiler even Ramsteinweiler called, is a Outbound Spur castle on a steep 250  m above sea level. NN high mountain nose in the hamlet of the hamlet of Fischerbach in the Ortenaukreis in Baden-Württemberg .

The castle site is located a few meters below the St. Michael church on the site of the now demolished “Schlossberg” inn (Kirchweg 21).

The castle was probably built by the lords of Weiler, first mentioned in 1240, and burned down in 1486. Other owners come from a branch of the Lords of Ramstein , who called themselves "von Ramsteinweiler". Remnants of the foundations of the former castle are still preserved.

history

The earliest mention of the Knights of Weiler can be assumed to be a document from January 4, 1240, in which Albertus de Wilere is mentioned as a witness.

As early as 1275/77, the knight Berthold von Ramstein had the neighboring estate "Eck-Berg" and probably also the castle as a Fürstenberg fief. He is mentioned several times until 1316.

In 1318 the "permanent" Hans and Burkart from Ramstein zu Wiler testified, among others, a transfer of ownership of goods in the rear Fischerbachtal to Tham and Konrad, sons of the deceased Thamm von Ramstein.

On November 29, 1358, King Charles IV granted Elsbeth von Husen, wife of Tham von Ramstein, the right to usufruct the castle stables in Ramstein, which meant the neighboring Fischerbach Castle , and the property in Fischerbach and in the Röchbach valley .

In 1486 it is reported that "Michel von Ramstein's house" was burned .

In 1501 Bernhard von Ramstein sold "his Wyler castle and accessories" to the brothers Jörg and Matern Walther von Eschau. This little castle still existed in the 16th century, when it was called the free "seat of Ramsteinweiler" when it was acquired by the "permanent" Hans Pluiver (Pleyer) in 1597.

In 1633 it finally went under in the Thirty Years' War ; "Such a castle was burned down in the war people of the King and Sweden [...]."
