Palafolls castle ruins

The castle ruins of Palafolls (in Catalan Castell de Palafolls ; in Spanish Castillo de Palafolls ) are the ruins of a medieval fortification ( hilltop castle ) on the Turó del Castell hill above the Catalan town of Palafolls .

Palafolls Castle originally secured the road from Girona to Barcelona and the estuary of the Tordera River . It was in use between the 10th and 16th centuries and was the seat of the barony of the same name . In 968 the fortification was first mentioned in a document, around 1400 it reached the most extensive expansion and from the 16th century the complex gradually fell into disrepair. Today it is a ruin.
