The castle ruins Zelking is the ruin of a hillside castle in the town of Zelking-Matzleinsdorf in Lower Austria and was the parent company of the family of the Zelkinger .

history

The castle on the slope of the Hiesberg was first mentioned in 1100 in connection with a Werner von Zelking . The Lords of Zelking died out in 1634.

The celebration came through marriage to the Polheim family in Wartenburg and around 1662 to Andrä Joachim Graf Sinzendorf . When the Turks besieged Vienna in 1683 and their troops pushed far into western Lower Austria, the still well-fortified castle served the surrounding civilian population as a place of refuge. After the lordly administration was moved to nearby Matzleinsdorf, the fortress was given up. In 1802 Franziska married Countess Kinsky, a widowed Countess Sinzendorf, her second marriage to Count Harrach. Later owners were, among others, the Counts of Rohrau and the Galgozy-Galantha family.

The castle only fell into disrepair at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century.

building

Today the ruin consists only of stone works from the 12th to 16th centuries. However, you can still see the massive arched gate, as well as some notch windows .
