Burkard Bausch

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Burkard Bausch (* 1656 , † around 1721 / 1723 ) was a monk and chronicler of the Frankish Münsterschwarzach Abbey .

Life

Bausch wrote two extensive chronicle works in Latin , in which he presented the history of his monastery in great detail with many references to its Franconian surroundings and with detailed descriptions of the general history . Its importance lies in the richness and originality of the presentation, but especially in the consistent pursuit of the conception of the pedagogical task of historiography . Convinced that the monastery chronicle also had an educational role to play, he often did not evade clear judgments - without much consideration for the status and rank of those affected in his monastery. In particular, the depiction of his own epoch , which he experienced as a monk for 43 years , creates a colorful picture of monastery life in the early Baroque period and contemporary history around 1700.
