Burkard Steppacher

Burkard Steppacher (* 1959 in Wiesentheid ) is a German political scientist and employee of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation .

Life

Burkard Steppacher first completed an apprenticeship as a banker and worked in this profession. In the 1980s he studied philosophy , political science and journalism at the LMU Munich , the University of Friborg and the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen . In 1992 he was in Tübingen with a dissertation on European policy of Switzerland to Dr. rer. oec. PhD . He has been working for the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) since 1991, where he has been head of the European Policy Research Department since 1998. From 2001 to 2003 he was also head of the KAS “Future of European Order” project.

In the 1990s, Steppacher was a long-standing executive board member of the German-Polish Society DPG Cologne-Bonn and has been a volunteer member of the German-Polish Society Federal Association since 1998 . Through these functions he had many contacts with Poland , in particular with Lech Wałęsa , Tadeusz Mazowiecki , Jerzy Buzek and Aleksander Kwaśniewski . In 2008 he was awarded the Gold Cross of Merit of the Republic of Poland for his services to German-Polish friendship .

Since the mid-1990s, he has been teaching at the University of Cologne at the Department of Political Sciences and the Research Institute for Political Sciences and European Issues. In 2009 he was appointed honorary professor at the suggestion of the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences . There he is connected to the Jean Monnet Chair of the institute.

Steppacher has published numerous scientific papers and articles.

Burkard Steppacher has been a member of the Catholic student association KDStV Tuiskonia Munich in the CV since 1982 .
