Burkhard Friday
Burkhard Freitag (born April 25, 1953 in Paderborn ) is a German computer scientist and holder of the chair for information management at the University of Passau and former president of the university.
Live and act
After graduating from high school in 1971 at the Theodorianum Gymnasium in Paderborn , Burkhard Freitag graduated in 1980 with a degree in mathematics from the University of Münster . In the following six years he worked in research, product development and knowledge engineering in research institutions and industry. In 1991 he was at the Technical University of Munich to Dr. rer. nat. PhD in computer science. He was appointed professor of computer science at the University of Passau in March 1994. From 1996 to 1998 he was also vice dean and from 2003 to 2005 dean of the faculty for mathematics and computer science. Since March 2002 he has held the chair for information management.
In addition, Burkhard Freitag has been director of the Institute for Information Systems and Software Technology (IFIS) at the University of Passau since May 2000, with the tasks of application-oriented research and cooperation with industry. From 2006 to 2008 he was Vice Rector of the University, after which he was one of its three Vice Presidents responsible for research and technology transfer.
On July 20, 2011, he was elected President of the University of Passau to succeed Walter Schweitzer . He began his four-year term on April 1, 2012. On July 8, 2015, he reapplied for President, but lost in the second ballot to his challenger Carola Jungwirth . This replaced him as President on April 1, 2016.
