Walter Schweitzer

Walter Schweitzer (born January 28, 1944 in Augsburg ) is a German stochastic and statistician .

Life

After finishing school in Oberstdorf and Kaufbeuren, Schweitzer studied business administration at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich from 1963 to 1968 . From 1968 to 1971 he was a research assistant at the chair for statistics at the LMU. In 1971, with a thesis on stochastic flows in networks in Munich, he was awarded a Dr. oec. publ. PhD ; he then moved to the University of Regensburg as an assistant . In 1977 he completed his habilitation in Regensburg with a paper on models for recording migration movements.

He worked as a professor at the University of Marburg worked, in 1978, he received a call to the chair of statistics at the newly founded University of Passau .

1980/81 was Schweitzer Vice Dean and from 1981 to 1983 Dean of the Faculty of Economics. In 1994 he became prorector of the University of Passau. In 1997 Schweitzer succeeded founding rector Karl-Heinz Pollok as rector of the University of Passau (president from 2008). He retired on March 31, 2012. Burkhard Freitag succeeded him as President .

From April 1, 2005 to March 31, 2007 Schweitzer was chairman of the University of Bavaria e. V. , the successor organization to the Bavarian Rectors' Conference.

Since 1999 he has been an honorary member of the Catholic student association KDSt.V. Oeno-Danubia in CV and member of the Lampl Brotherhood since 2013 .
