Burkhard König (2019)

Burkhard König (born June 23, 1963 in Wiesbaden ) is a German chemist ( organic chemistry ) and professor at the University of Regensburg . König received his doctorate from the University of Hamburg in 1991 . His doctoral supervisor was Armin de Meijere . He was a post-doctoral student with MA Bennett at Australian National University and Barry Trost at Stanford University .

In 1996 he completed his habilitation at the University of Braunschweig . Three years later - in 1999 - he became a full professor for organic chemistry at the University of Regensburg .

In his scientific work, he deals with intermolecular interactions and molecular recognition, especially the development of synthetic receptors for biological structures and the application of chemical photocatalysis in the visible spectrum for organic synthesis.

In 2007, König received the Literature Prize of the Fonds der Chemischen Industrie for his project New and more sustainable organic-chemical internship (NOP) . It serves to disseminate high-quality test regulations via the Internet, with sustainable use of substances and resources (also from a toxicological and energetic point of view).

With a Hirsch index of 60, König is one of the most frequently cited university lecturers in chemistry.
