Burkhard Wolk (born March 25, 1949 in Varel ) is a German guitarist , ensemble leader, music teacher , author and reciter .

Life

Wolk spent his childhood in Rostock and moved to East Berlin when he was twelve . There he took his classical guitar training with Jürgen Kliem and completed a course of study at the special class of the Friedrichshain Music School , which he graduated with the highest grade.

He played lead guitar in various rock bands in Berlin, e.g. B. with Uve Schikora , Toni Krahl , Opus and Con Fuoco. In 1973 Wolk was a co-founder of the hard rock group Vulcan , which he took over leadership together with Rainer Nawrath from the end of 1974. Through repeated contact with the Warsaw experimental studio, with Professor Patkowski, Wolk composed 24 electronic collages in Warsaw and Berlin for the group's live shows. From 1976 Wolk completed his studies in classical guitar with Rosemarie Ecke and Wolfram Heicking at the Hanns Eisler Music Academy . He took part in international tours as a song accompanist for Chris Doerk , Jürgen Walter and Barbara Kellerbauer . Wolk describes his contact with the Venezuelan guitarist Alirio Díaz in Rome as one of his most intense influences. In 1980 he settled in Cologne, where he completed a second degree in classical guitar at the Cologne University of Music from 1981 to 1985. In 1985 he founded the Albeniz guitar duo with Thomas F. Kirchoff . From 1991 to 1994 Thomas Müller-Pehring was his partner. From 2004 the Koblenz guitarist Rainer Stutz took over the part as the second member.

Wolk completed some German premieres of guitar works, u. a. Concierto madrigal by Joaquín Rodrigo , 24 Caprichos de Goya by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco and others. During this time he gave master classes in Germany, Austria, Turkey, Great Britain and the USA. Since 2003 Wolk has also acted as a reciter, including a multimedia concept of visual-musical collages and the texts of Dante Alighieri's Inferno . By working with the laser physicist Michael von Hösslin, who worked as a drummer and percussionist in several jazz formations, both developed a musical concept that interprets string theory to the effect that the musical truths lie in one of 26 dimensions and can be made audible through improvisation, which means that Concerts were created that combine free improvisation, jazz and classical music. Wolk is socially committed through repeated benefit concerts for the international children's charity " Calcutta Rescue ".
