Burn (body of water)

The term Burn referred in northeast England , Scotland and the region Otago in New Zealand a water course, the size of a small stream to a river reaches.

The term comes from North Humbrian , a dialect of Old English .

In New Zealand, the term was introduced by the Northumbrian surveyor John Turnbull Thomson , who explored and mapped a large part of the South Island.

In the newer English language, "bourne" or "bourn" is a corresponding term that can be found in the name of the city of Bournemouth .

In the German language, the word “Born” in its meaning “Brunnen”, but also “water” in general, is a related term.
