Burns Township is one of the 16 townships in Shiawassee County in the US state of Michigan . At the time of the United States Census 2000 there were 3,500 people living here.

history
Whitmore Knaggs set up a trading post in 1820 to trade goods and furs with the Ojibwe who lived here . The township was organized in 1835.
Demographics
At the time of the 2000 United States Census, Burns Township had 3500 residents. The population density was 38.1 people per km ². There were 1230 housing units at an average of 13.4 per km ². The population Burns townships consisted of 97.91% of White , 0.03% Black or African American , 0.43% Native American , 0.17% Asian , 0% Pacific Islander , 0.06% said other races to belong and 1.40% named two or more races. 1.51% of the population declared to be Hispanic or Latinos of any race.
The residents of Burns Townships were distributed to 1,191 households out of which 40.4% had children under the age of 18. 70.2% of households were married, 7.6% had a female head of household without a husband, and 16.6% were not families. 13.8% of households were made up of individuals and someone lived in 5.2% of all households aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.94 and the average family size was 3.20.
The population was divided into 29.2% minors, 7.3% 18–24 year olds, 30.5% 25–44 year olds, 23.9% 45–64 year olds and 9.2% aged 65 years or more. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 women there were 104.0 men. For every 100 women over 18, there were 100.0 men.
