Busso Peus

Busso Peus (born January 19, 1908 in Münster ; † November 5, 1979 there ) was a German lawyer and politician ( CDU ). From 1952 to 1964 he was Lord Mayor of Münster.

Life

Peus, son of Fritz-Carl Peus , studied law in Heidelberg after graduating from high school and became a member of the K.St.V. Palatia Heidelberg in the KV . In 1933 he obtained his doctorate and joined his father's office. In 1942 he was drafted into the war, was taken prisoner and returned to Münster in November 1946.

As a member of the CDU, he was elected Lord Mayor of his hometown in 1952 and held this post until 1964. Peus was significantly involved in the reconstruction of Münster and established national and international contacts as well as town twinning. The city of Orléans made Peus its first foreign honorary citizen in 1964.

Peus worked as a lawyer and notary, and was also a member of the culture committee of the German Association of Cities. At the North Rhine-Westphalia City Council, he was a member of the school committee. He was chairman of the German-Dutch Society. From 1960 to 1961 he was also President of the Westphalian Riding Club .

He was married to Annemarie Peus (1916–2008), recipient of the Federal Cross of Merit and the Paulus plaque of the city of Münster.
