Butler Township is a township in southern Luzerne County in the US state of Pennsylvania . It has around 9,000 inhabitants (as of 2010) on an area of ​​87.1 km².

The township founded by John Balliet in 1784 includes the villages of Beech Mountain Lakes, Drums, Edgewood, Kis-Lyn, Nescopeck Pass (partly in Dorrance Township), St. Johns and Sand Spring.

In 1928, Spirit of St. Louis landed on the St. Johns and Drums airfield a year after they crossed the Atlantic.
