Butriptyline is a drug belonging to the group of tricyclic antidepressants . The mechanism of action is similar to amitriptyline . At the same dose, however, it is said to have a more effective antidepressant effect than amitriptyline, without having more side effects. It develops its maximum effect (T max ) after 2.6 (unretarded) to 7.5 hours (retarded). The plasma half-life is 20 hours.
