Buzkashi Boys is an Afghan-American short film by Sam French from the year 2012 .

action

Kabul : Rafi, the son of a blacksmith, and the fatherless and homeless street boy Ahmad are friends. One day, Rafi is allowed two hours away from his work of sharpening blades and is taken away by Ahmad. Both look at numerous riders playing buzkaschi . Ahmad thinks he will later become a great buzkashi rider himself. Rafi, on the other hand, knows that, like all men in his family, he will eventually become a blacksmith. Ahmad makes it clear to him that everyone can shape their own future.

Both go to a ruined palace, where Ahmad climbs the roof over an old ladder. The climbing action is too dangerous for Rafi and he stays on the ground, whereupon Ahmad mockingly points out that he will never be a good buzkaschi rider if he doesn't dare to climb. The next morning, Ahmad picks up Rafi: he found a horse on a leash in a garbage dump. He mounts it and rides away. A little later, Rafi finds Ahmad lifeless. He fell from his horse and suffered a fatal head wound. Rafi and his father buried Ahmad in a simple grave. A little later, the father tries to teach Rafi how to hammer a blacksmith, but reacts gruffly when Rafi has problems with it. Rafi leaves, watches the Buzkaschi game and finally climbs the ladder to the ruined roof, from where he calls Ahmad's name. Then he returns to his father. Since his father had once told him that he wanted to teach him the blacksmith's trade, he asked him to do it now. Rafi starts hammering and the father finally praises him for his first attempts.
