Cân Barrd is a metal music project launched in 2016 in the Swiss city of Geneva by Kaatarakt keyboardists Malo Civelli and Dylan Watson.

history

The multi-instrumentalist Malo Civelli started the music project, inspired by the Scottish Saor project , in 2016 initially as a one-man project. Civelli took his bandmate Dylan Watson from Kaatarakt on as a drummer in the project, because in his opinion a real drum kit sounds more powerful than a drum machine .

In 2018, Cân Bardd's first album Nature Stays Silent was released on the German metal independent label Northern Silence Productions . Originally, no album was planned at the time, but Civelli had already written enough musical material to release a full album instead of an EP . The poor production quality was criticized by reviewers for the album. The album cover is based on the painting La Route Du Grimsel by the painter Alexandre Calame .

The duo's second studio album followed in 2019 with The Last Rain , which was also released by Northern Silence. In November and December 2020 the group can be seen as a “special guest” on the European tour of Borknagar and Saor .

music

The music of Cân Bardd can be assigned to Atmospheric Black Metal and Folk Metal . Civelli names groups such as Caladan Brood , Saor , Elderwind and Gallowbraid as the greatest musical influences. However, Civelli also draws inspiration from video game music . He also names groups such as Sojourner , Zuriaake , Ureqvited and Coldworld as sources of musical inspiration.

Thematically, the texts take up Civelli's focus on nature . This is how he processes his feelings or the stories of the landscapes he has observed. The songs also partially process his deep feelings and are very personal.

Band name

The band name Cân Bardd is of Welsh origin and means about "The Bard's Song " and "The Bard's Poetry ". The name was chosen because Civelli is interested in Celtic culture and his music is influenced by Celtic music as well as folklore.
