The Cäcilienschlucht (also: Cecilienschlucht ) is one of the notched valleys in Flensburg and consists of "deep, wooded gorges with small watercourses". The area is located in the Mürwik district and is assigned to the Solitüde district .

background

Strictly speaking, the Cäcilienschlucht is not a gorge , but a notch in one of the lateral moraines of the Flensburg Fjord . A small brook, which is still in the Cäcilienschlucht today, cut deeper and deeper into the earth over the centuries, so that today's “Bachschlucht” or the Kerbtal was created. The origin and the age of the name of the Cäcilienschlucht is unclear. The apparently underlying personal name Cäcilie has no special meaning. The name of the gorge is apparently mentioned for the first time in a document from the years 1913 to 1915 in the Flensburg City Archives . It is an alignment plan of the path that leads through the gorge. Shortly beforehand, the single-family houses Twedter Strandweg 7 (1911/12) and Twedter Strandweg 9 (1912) were built to the west, above the valley . They are both registered as cultural monuments of Mürwik . In the old village center of Twedter Holz to the south, above, there are still much older houses. To the east, above the Cäcilienschlucht gorge, there is also the Schöne Aussicht area, which nowadays is apparently regarded as a new part of Waldeshöh . There are also much older houses there. In the 1970s and 1980s, increased construction activity began in the area of the Schöne Aussicht . In the meantime, a few houses border the gorge directly south above the Kerbtal.

In 1976 or earlier, the small wooded area Cäcilienschlucht became part of the nature reserve on the banks of the fjord in Mürwik . The mentioned stream still flows through the "Landscape Protection Area Cäcilienschlucht" to the north. At the yacht harbor near Fahrensodde it flows into the fjord. There is also a small reservoir in the middle of the gorge . Meadowsweet grow there - tall herbaceous meadows , marsh horsetail , marsh horn clover and common loosestrife . The trees consist of a grove -beech forest in the valley, alder-ash forest in the more humid areas (see also: alluvial forest ) and alder forest on the slopes. The Cäcilienschlucht with its forest is said to be largely privately owned and is hardly accessible to the population. At the same time, however, some animal species can withdraw into the largely untouched area. Other well-known notch valleys in the city are the Mühlenstromtal, the Lachsbachtal, the Lautrupsbachtal, the Schwarzenbachtal and the Osbektal .
