Caesar W. Radetzky

Caesar W. Radetzky-Radetz (* 1939 in Nuremberg ) is a German painter and author . In addition to his work as a freelance artist, he worked as an art teacher with children and young people and as a lecturer in painting at the Reichenhall Art Academy .

life and work

Radetzky studied nude and portrait painting with König at the Academy in Munich and landscape with Ugo Capocchini , Accademia delle Arti del Disegno in Florence. In 1963 he took part in the summer academy “School of Seeing” in Salzburg under the direction of Oskar Kokoschka , and also in 1977 with Rudolf Kortokraks , Oskar Kokoschka's former assistant.

In 1984 a large-format painting was accepted in the nationwide tender for painting "German Landscape Today" and shown in the exhibition stations Neuer Berliner Kunstverein and Kunstverein Hannover . In 1993 the picture cycle "Hommage à Paolo Conte " was created, which is dedicated to the singer's texts and songs. In 1994, during a stay in southwest France, he created large-format pictures with impressions from Aquitaine, bullfighting motifs and landscapes.

In 1995 the cycle "Black Tuscany" was created. The city of Rovereto invited Radetzky to "Estate 95", where seven artists exhibit their works annually in seven palazzi in the city. In 1996 a series of small bronze sculptures was created.

Since November 1, 2015, Radetzky has also lived and worked in Berlin. In the gallery on Spandauer See it can be seen with regularly changing exhibits in a permanent exhibition. His new studio is located in the same building, the old powder factory right next to the Spandau Citadel.

Sacred art

On behalf of the artists' pastoral care of the Archdiocese of Munich , Radetzky designed a Way of the Cross with 14 large-format paintings of the Passion of Christ in 1999 . The 14 Stations of the Cross were shown together with the concert by Hannes Beckmann in the basilica of the St. Boniface Abbey (Munich).

For the exhibition “freedom-freiheit-liberté”, three large-format works were created in 2000 on the subject of a possible coexistence of the world religions Christianity, Judaism and Islam. The Museum for Sepulchral Culture in Kassel showed Radetzky's cycles “venerdi santo” and “Kreuzweg”, under the title “Totentanz und Kreuzweg”. In 2004 there was an exhibition “The Blue Crown” in the Germering town hall. The video of the Stations of the Cross was shown at a concert by Hannes Beckmann at the Munich Music Academy . The 14 Stations of the Cross were created in 2005 as a screen print edition. In 2007 the video film of the Stations of the Cross was shown again in a multimedia connection with Hannes Beckmann's Stations of the Cross concert in a matinee at the Residenztheater in Munich . In 2009 the Way of the Cross “The Blue Crown” was shown in the Renaissance aisle at Brandys Castle near Prague. and in 2010 the Way of the Cross “Sub specie aeternitatis” in Schäftlarn Monastery.

Caesar W. Radetzky-Radetz is the great-great-grandson of Field Marshal Josef Wenzel Radetzky von Radetz .
