C. Frederick Koelsch

Charles Frederick Koelsch (born January 31, 1907 in Boise , Idaho , † December 24, 1999 ) was an American chemist . His specialty was organic chemistry .

education

Koelsch studied chemistry at the University of Wisconsin . In 1928 he made there the Bachelor of Science degree and was in 1931 when Samuel M. McElvain with the work Some reactions Involving the ethylene oxide structure for Ph.D. PhD . He then worked for almost two years for the National Research Council at Harvard University .

academic career

Koelsch moved to the University of Minnesota in 1932 . There he was appointed assistant professor in 1934 and three years later associate professor. In 1946 he accepted a professorship at the same university. He stayed there until his retirement in 1973. The Koelsch Radical is named after him.

family

Koelsch was married and had three children. His ancestors came from the Rhineland and emigrated to America around 1800.
