CAE Inc. (formerly Canadian Aviation Electronics Inc. ) is one of the world's largest and leading providers of professional flight simulator technology. The Canadian company is headquartered in Montreal , Québec , Canada and employs around 7,500 people worldwide. In addition to developing and building flight simulators and developing software, the company has a network of education and training centers in 20 countries on five continents. The company supports airlines with pilot training in the civil and military sectors. Customers include aircraft manufacturers, airlines and the military.
history
The company was founded in 1947 by Ken Patrick, a retired officer in the Royal Canadian Air Force . In 1960, the company received its first major order from the Canadian government to build six F-104 starfighter simulators for the Canadian Air Force. With the F-104 program, the company gained its first experience with radar land survey simulations. Over a period of five years, another 26 simulators were ordered from five NATO- allied countries. In 1970 there was pressure on the airlines from environmental associations and the like. a. because of the oil crisis. As a result, the airlines were forced to train their flight personnel better on the flight simulators, on the one hand to protect the environment, on the other hand to reduce kerosene consumption and to comply with the limits imposed by the countries. During the eighties, the company expanded internationally. The company exported 85% of its production to other countries. In the 1990s, the company developed into a leading developer and manufacturer of full-flight simulators for civil aviation as well as flight training, visual systems, computer-based trainers and assisted training systems. 2000–2010 the company strengthened its international expansion.

Airplane simulators
CAE has sold more than 900 simulators and training systems to more than 100 airlines, aircraft manufacturers, and other and military training institutions. The company also sells software for the aerospace and training sectors to various companies and also performs special simulations for them.
Pilot training
CAE has training facilities with over 115 full-flight simulators in more than 24 training facilities, where around 3500 airlines, pilots and manufacturers worldwide are trained. In the USA, CAE is one of the largest training institutions for non-airline based companies. This primarily includes charter and freight companies that have their pilots trained at CAE. In December 2001, CAE acquired the Simuflite Training Centers in Dallas , Texas and Morristown , New Jersey , now known as CAE SimuFlite . The Dallas training facility, located at the Dallas / Fort Worth International Airport , is the largest business aviation training facility in the world. 34 flight simulators are available on around 39,600 m². Around 450 people are employed at the location. The Oxford Aviation Academy , the largest institution in Europe, is also part of CAE.
CAE trains around 75,000 flight personnel every year at its 29 civil and military training centers around the world.
