The Cambridge Dragoon Barracks , also known as CD barracks in the vernacular in Celle , is a former barracks in Celle , Neuenhäusen district .

1842 to 1945

The barracks were built from 1841 to 1842 for the Cambridge Dragoons, a cavalry regiment named after Adolphus Frederick of Cambridge , stationed in Celle since 1833 . The former staff building still preserved today bears the year 1842 and the initials EA of King Ernst August of Hanover .

The Cambridge Dragoons remained in Celle until the end of the Kingdom of Hanover (1866), and when Hanover was annexed by Prussia , Prussian troops moved into the barracks. After the Franco-Prussian War (1870/1871) until after the end of the First World War , parts of various artillery regiments were in the barracks. During the time of the Reichswehr , the barracks was home to a driving department from 1919 to 1932. In 1932 the army gas school of the Reichswehr was relocated from Bremen to Celle, which used the barracks as a teaching and training facility.

1945 to 1996

After the end of World War II , British troops moved into the barracks and renamed them Goodwood Barracks . From 1976 there were units of the German Armed Forces , including the staff of the Panzer Brigade 33 and the Panzer Battalion 331. Since 1990 the barracks have been called Cambridge Dragoons Barracks again . In 1996 it was evacuated by the Bundeswehr.

1996 until today

After the abandonment as military property, the East Europe Center Lower Saxony, the local branch of the Technical Relief Organization , the Celle Mining Office , an operating point of the Lower Saxony calibration office , the Celle labor court , the Lüneburg public prosecutor's office - Celle branch -, the Celle State Trade Supervisory Office and the school inspectorate in Celle. In 2010 the tax office in Celle moved into a new building. During the renovation of the Celle Castle Theater from 2010 to 2012, the ensemble played in the temporary residence Residenzhalle , which was set up on the site.

Furthermore, a youth and event center was set up on the site . The 33,000 m² area is managed by the non-profit company of the same name ( gGmbH ).

Culture

Rock concerts, parties, hip-hop events, comedy events, theater performances, children's musicals and readings take place in the two event halls 10 and 16 of the former Reiter-Kaserne .

Youth work

Since 1996 the CD-Kaserne has been active in youth work with holiday programs, daily activities and other offers for children and young people from Celle and the surrounding area. The youth work currently has two facilities on the site:

  • The “youth café” is a meeting place for everyone from 16 years of age.
  • "House No. 7" is an open meeting place for all age groups.

Training company

The CD-Kaserne is a training company for the professions event manager / event manager and office clerk / office clerk . Since 2006 there has also been training to become a specialist in event technology.
